The Peperomia Rosso is a study in contrast. The tops of its leaves are a deep, corrugated green with a texture that catches light in interesting ways — almost like hammered metal. Flip the leaf over and there's a rich burgundy-red on the underside. It's the kind of detail you only discover by looking closely, and it makes the plant feel more considered than its size might suggest.
Peperomia caperata 'Rosso' is a compact plant that stays well under a foot tall, making it an ideal companion for desks, windowsills, and shelves. The deeply ridged leaves give it a sculptural quality that's unusual for a small plant, and the occasional flower spikes — thin, upright stalks with tiny blooms — add a moment of extra interest without being showy. The care is as simple as Peperomias get.
This is a small plant with a lot going on.
Why You'll Love It
The Rosso punches above its weight. The textured leaves have a quality that most plants twice its size don't match, and the contrast between the green top and burgundy underside is a genuine visual reward for anyone who looks closely. It's a plant that rewards attention — and then keeps earning it over time as you notice new things about it.
Care at a Glance
- Light: Medium to bright indirect light preferred. The leaf color is most vivid in brighter conditions
- Water: Allow the top inch of soil to dry between waterings. Less is more with Peperomias
- Humidity: Tolerates average indoor humidity. No misting required
- Temperature: Prefers 65 to 80 degrees F. Keep away from cold drafts
- Growth: Slow. Stays compact — ideal for small spaces
- Skill level: Beginner-friendly. Very forgiving and easy to maintain
- Pet safety: Non-toxic to pets and humans
Good to Know
The Rosso's deeply ridged leaves can trap water if misted directly — water at the soil level rather than overhead to keep the leaves dry and avoid rot. Like all Peperomias, it stores water in its leaves and prefers to dry out a bit between waterings. If flower spikes appear, enjoy them but don't worry if they come and go — the plant is attractive with or without them.
