The Neon Philodendron is the chartreuse one — the plant that makes a dark corner look like it has a light source you can't quite locate. The leaves are a vivid, almost fluorescent lime green that reads brighter in person than in photos, and the color holds through the entire plant from newest leaf to oldest. It's unambiguously joyful.

Philodendron hederaceum 'Neon' has the same trailing, climbing habit and forgiving temperament as the Heartleaf Philodendron — it's just dramatically more colorful. It grows quickly, trails generously, and works in all the same ways: from a shelf, in a hanging planter, or climbing a support. The lime-green color is at its most vivid in bright indirect light, but the plant tolerates lower light conditions better than most colorful plants.

This is a plant that brings energy to a space without trying.

Why You'll Love It

The Neon Philodendron is one of the easiest ways to add genuine color to an indoor space without the maintenance requirements of a flowering plant. The lime-green is a natural, plant-derived color — it doesn't look artificial, it just looks alive. In a grouping of darker plants, a single Neon Philodendron lifts the entire arrangement. On its own, it holds a space with a confident, uncomplicated brightness.

Care at a Glance

  • Light: Medium to bright indirect light. Brighter light = more vivid neon color
  • Water: Allow the top inch of soil to dry between waterings. Very forgiving
  • Humidity: Tolerates average indoor humidity. Appreciates occasional misting
  • Temperature: Prefers 65 to 85 degrees F. Keep away from cold drafts
  • Growth: Fast. One of the more vigorous Philodendrons
  • Skill level: Beginner-friendly. Same care as all Heartleaf Philodendrons
  • Pet safety: Toxic if ingested. Keep away from pets and small children

Good to Know

In lower light, the Neon Philodendron's color shifts from vivid lime-green toward a more yellow-green — still beautiful, but less intense. Moving it to a brighter spot restores the color within a few new leaves. Like all Heartleaf Philodendrons, it propagates readily in water: cut a stem with a node and place in a glass of water for a new plant in 2 to 3 weeks.
